New LEGO Survey & Results of July 2009 Survey

Benn at RAILBRICKs has some important news – there is a new LEGO survey, and LEGO has released the results of the July 2009 LEGO survey. The survey also covers AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO) as well as TFOL (Teen Fans of LEGO) even though, as the survey notes, it’s hosted at the LEGO Kids Inner Circle.

LEGO survey site

This is the survey information:

For your information, we have listed the key findings from the latest survey in July 2009 below. Now we ask you to take the survey again. Atlantis, Ben 10 LEGO Teaser Websites Are Live

Sometime last night or this morning, two teaser websites for two new LEGO lines have went live on LEGO.com.

They are for LEGO’s in-house Atlantis line as well as the Cartoon Network’s Ben 10 Alien Force lines. The Atlantis site mentions a January 4, 2010 launch date which matches with Amazon.com, etc., although there has been some discussion concerning an ad in the latest BrickMaster magazine which shows a November 24, 2009 launch date.

Right now the Atlantis site is a cool little flash animation/movie with some background, including a neat little journal you can read that is set in the early 1900s. The journal is worth a read – it’s fairly long for something that’s just a teaser. There are various items on the sea bed including what appears to be an old submarine that sunk long ago. There are some free downloads as well.

The Ben 10 line has biographies and video, almost all of which are locked for now with a message saying come back soon. The video for Swampfire mainly shows him being assembled and with the voice from the Cartoon Network series.

There is one interesting little tidbit in the Swampfire video – at one point you can see what might be the new airplane (LEGO # 3181-1) that is coming out in 2010:

MostlyBricks.com Update (November 10)

MostlyBricks.com is now live as you can see. Some site layout and theme work is still being worked out and will be worked out over the next few weeks. Things will still be screwy for a few days as the transition from a certain free blogger service is complete – you’ll see some weird dates and some story and image formatting that doesn’t make sense, but we’ll get them straightened out There are still 15-20 posts to be imported, and I’m working on getting the flickr integration finished.

Our main goal was to get MostlyBricks.com up and running and then bring over any relevant stories and posts before Thanksgiving here in the US, and we are way ahead of where we expected to be. I’ve removed the posts from the blogger service as I put them up on here so that there isn’t duplicate content floating around out there on the web to confuse people. It shouldn’t be a problem though – the original blog wasn’t being indexed by Google, etc., as we were still unsure of whether we wanted to commit to it back then and had turned off indexing. Now that we have obviously committed to going through and doing this, it makes no sense to refer back to the original blog either – the number of readers was small anyways.

You can contact us (for now) through:
mostlybricks @ gmail.com or
mostlybricks @ yahoo.com (for our flickr stuff)

Where we go from here, once the rest of the stories are imported and the theme/layout is finalized – who knows, the sky is the limit and we are pretty excited about it.

New 1×1 Brick With Stud on One Side

1x1-new-brickWell it’s sort of new. Moctagon Jones has posted a photo of a new part that comes with the 30008 Snowman set that’s a part of the Christmas-related impulse LEGO sets. It’s still listed as a headlight brick, but it doesn’t have the lip on the side and no anti-stud. It’s apparently called a “Brick 1×1 modified with stud on one side” and set #30008 comes with 6 of them. Moctagon Jones points out that it’s similar to part number 30414 (BrickLink.com) which is a 1×4 version of this.

There’s a lot of discussion over whether it would replace the headlight brick and why it wasn’t produced sooner given that there was already a 1×4 version.

Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon #10179 – Production Has Stopped

This is kind of bittersweet news. Although I had no plans on buying one, it looks like the LEGO Company actually stopped production of LEGO set # 10179, the Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon that’s a part of the Star Wars line.

Bittersweet because it’s the second-largest LEGO set ever produced, and the largest Star Wars set produced – we are talking over 5,000 Lego pieces. It’s also built to minifig scale down to the cockpit. It has quite a few interesting features (mostly Technic-related parts) with moving parts including an extending/retracting boarding ramp. It also came with Han Solo, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Princess Leia minifigs. It was only surpassed pieces-wise by the Taj Mahal, # 10189, which has nearly 6,000 pieces.

This is what was posted on the official Shop at Home site in the US:

Make sure you own the largest LEGO® Star Wars™ set ever produced. The production line has stopped on the Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon™ – get one while they last…
