LEGO Movie – Adventures of Clutch Powers Shipping

By Chad, February 23, 2010

lego-movie-clutch-powers LEGO’s first movie on DVD, the Adventures of Clutch Powers, should be available today (February 23, 2010), at least in the US.

Amazon.com is currently listing it for $14.99 (normally $19.98) with a release date of today. This is for the widescreen version in English, with English, French, and Spanish subtitles. It’s 82 minutes long. Best Buy is also showing it with a release date of today but there’s no way to check if it’s available in the physical Best Buy stores yet – it’s only listed for pre-order on their website.

Before anybody says “what about the Bionicle movies?” LEGO is apparently not counting those, and rightfully so. It’s also not counting LEGO Atlantis: The Movie since that has not made an appearance on DVD (unfortunately).

Obviously it’s going to be used to help sell LEGO products and sets, however a lot of effort has been put into it, and it’s looking more and more like it will be a way to introduce newcomers and possibly even AFOLs to either existing sets or upcoming sets, such as Kingdoms (the replacement for Castle), Power Miners, Space Police, etc. I think it’s going to be as cool as the Atlantis movie.

Don’t expect any of the licensed themes like Harry Potter or Star Wars to make an appearance – from the trailer and from people I’ve talked to, this is all in-house themes/lines from LEGO.

This is LEGO and Universal Home Entertainment’s summary of the action:

For the first time ever, see the creative world of LEGO® come to life in the all-new feature-length DVD movie. Meet Clutch Powers, the best builder and explorer in the LEGO®universe as he heads off on his most dangerous mission yet. Join Clutch and his team of LEGO®experts as their adventure leads them from LEGO® City to the Space Police prison planet to the medieval world of Ashlar where they must help the rightful heir to the King’s throne find the courage to regain the kingdom from the evil wizard Mallock the Malign. Their brick-building skills will be put to the ultimate test as they face off against Mallock’s skeleton army. Get ready for an action-packed adventure like nothing you have ever seen before, The Adventures of Clutch Powers!

LEGO Store Notes

By Chad, December 31, 2009

I had a chance to visit a LEGO store north of Dallas (the The Stonebriar Centre/Frisco LEGO Store) and in addition to the calendar I picked up yesterday that mentioned LEGO Atlantis: The Movie coming out in a few weeks, I took a look around at the sets available as well as spoke with a few people, and made a few notes:

1) The only Indiana Jones sets and Spongebob Squarepants sets I saw were returns and went fast.
2) Quite a few King’s Battle Chariot’s (7078) were available, along with some Troll Battle Packs, but very little else (if anything) from the Castle series. Guess they are making way for LEGO Kingdoms later this year when it replaces Castle.
3) Some good deals to be had on a few Pirate sets – I think I got the last Pirates Battle Pack (for $10.98) and there were quite a few 8396 Soldier’s Arsneal for $2.48 which is a really good deal. Like Castle, it’s pretty clear they are going away for a while. What’s unclear is what’s going to replace them – Pirates of the Caribbean?
4) No matter how hard I try to pack a Pick-A-Brick cup (large), I always leave a few gaps that are glaringly obvious afterward.
5) LEGO Store employees have a thankless task – I saw two kids that were filling their free box, the one you get if you buy $75 or more before Christmas, and they were overfilling them and just having a blast, happily spilling LEGO pieces everywhere from PAB. Just grabbing handfuls of pieces and adding them to the box that was already spilling pieces. A LEGO Store employee had to literally sweep up several dozen pieces just from one girl. No parent in sight of course. I imagine that happens quite a bit.
6) As for the 10199 Winter Toy Shop, none available, which makes three stores I know of that are out.
7) Saw very few older sets – saw plenty of the new sets we and others have already covered. I’m wondering what will be available this Friday in addition to the Imperial Flagship. I’m also seeing this at non-LEGO retail stores such as Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, Target, etc. I’ve seen a lot of steeply discounted sets from Castle, Pirates, Spongebob, and Indiana Jones.

The most important news I think, besides the confirmation of the LEGO Atlantis: The Movie bit, was that the 10210 Imperial Flagship will be in stores and available on January 1st (Friday). Employees were very confident about this.

Update: Now available – 10210 Imperial Flagship

Some LEGO Sets Heavily Discounted at Toys R Us Stores

By Jason, November 18, 2009

Huw at Brickset mentioned some sets at Target that will be heavily discounted on “Black Friday” (day after Thanksgiving in the US), including the 7048 Troll Warship. If you’re after some of the other Troll sets, they are being heavily discounted in other areas.

One of them is the 7041 Troll Battle Wheel, with 508 pieces and 6 minifigs, and I found one at a Toys R Us in the Houston area for $29.98.

These are not being offered through the Shop@Home LEGO site, at least in the US:

Sorry, item is not available in this country: United States.

As far as the official Toys R Us website, they are only offering LEGO Castle: Troll’s Dark/Moutain Fortress (7097) and Troll Assault Wagon (7038) so this is definitely an in-store thing. Neither the 7097 or 7038 seems to be discounted.

There have also been some older Agent sets as well. Some of these sets are not showing up on the Toys R Us website, and you are best checking through an in-store price checker.
